My swift feet...

 Haven't gone anywhere...but have :P

Hello there,

My goodness I haven't written in awhile! I've been trying to get my life in order that way I can start finding out where I'm supposed to be and what I am supposed to be doing with my life! I haven't been writing as much b/c unfortunately my life and summer has been hectic at times but also very fun and entertaining at times, doing a lot of visiting with the families! So therefore my studying and research has taken a back seat this WHOLE summer so I have not had a chance to gather my thoughts and pen (or type) a proper blog post!

I have a job interview Tuesday and I'm really hoping I get it...since it's at a bookstore and I LOOOOVE books!!!

But we'll hafta see...please be praying for me! Also I've been doing lots of thinking on my time away from the stream and examining my actions on how I handle debates and some things that I find morally wrong and realize that my hard-core, in-your-face approach is a lil stand offish and I just need to realize that yes it's alright to be passionate about certain issues and topics but it is NEVER alright to offend or cause quarrels...or even run ppl off! So I am sorry if I have offended anyone with voicing certain moral and political issues harshly I need to realize that I could actually sway ppl more so by being humble, kind and gentle in my voicing! But anyway I need to examine myself and the way I behave in certain areas before I can even "think" about what "other" people are doing! I'm always reminded of that famous Bible verse...Matthew 7:3~"And why behold you the mote that is in your brother's eye, but consider not the beam that is in your own eye?"

I apologize if this doesn't make any sense to you...but the blogstream is a place for me to gather my thoughts and figure out who I am and what I am doing...I don't know if you can relate but please bare with me!

I bet she wishes she never got married...

I faintly remember the news coverage on this incident approx 6 years ago...and was shocked that this many years later the truth has come out and further shocked at the outcome...

David Gabe Watson jailed for killing wife on honeymoon dive

AAP

Gabe and Tina Watson
Dive death ... Gabe and Tina Watson on their engagement.

AN American man has been jailed for four-and-a-half years after admitting to killing his wife while scuba diving on their honeymoon in north Queensland.

David Gabriel Watson, 32, pleaded guilty today in the Supreme Court in Brisbane to the manslaughter of his wife, Christina, while scuba diving on their honeymoon in north Queensland in October 2003.

Justice Peter Lyons sentenced Watson to four-and-a-half years in jail, suspended after 12 months.

He had been charged with murder, to which he pleaded not guilty, but Crown prosecutors accepted the plea to the lesser charge, meaning he will not face trial.

Christina's father Tommy Thomas said his family was in disbelief that the murder charge was not maintained.

"I'm sure that the entire Australian nation as well as our country back home shares in the shock at what we've just seen, because it's a total injustice ... it's ludicrous," he said.

I can't imagine how furious her family are at this sentencing...

"Today he (Watson) was allowed to take the easy way out.

"This is in no way, shape or form a beginning to get justice for our daughter.

"It's an embarrassment to everyone involved.

"We believe that Gabe Watson murdered our daughter."

Prosecutor Brendan Campbell told the court the manslaughter plea was accepted on the basis that Watson had failed in his duty as Tina's dive buddy by not giving her emergency oxygen.

Mr Campbell said Watson also allowed Tina to sink to the ocean floor without making any serious attempt to retrieve her, and that he did not inflate her buoyancy vest or remove weights from her belt.

"He virtually extinguished any chance of her survival,'' Mr Campbell said.

Watson married Tina in a ceremony described by her friends as her dream wedding in Birmingham, Alabama, on October 11, 2003.

Eleven days later, a dive instructor found her lying on the bottom of the ocean during a week-long Great Barrier Reef scuba diving trip off the coast of Townsville.

A coronial inquest into her death heard a fellow diver saw Gabe Watson engaged in an underwater "bearhug'' with his petite wife, after which the bubble-wrap salesman headed for the surface while his wife fell to the ocean floor.

Coroner David Glasgow formally charged Watson with murder last June and the American voluntarily returned to Australia in February.

The Supreme Court was today told Watson was an experienced diver who had been trained in rescuing panicked divers.

Watson told police Tina had knocked his mask off and then had sunk too quickly for him to retrieve her.

But the Crown rejected this explanation, saying it would not have been possible for her to sink rapidly.

Tina's father, her sister Alanda and friend, Amanda Phillips, flew from Alabama to Australia this week to be in court for Watson's sentencing.

Can you imagine being newly married, having your dream wedding and a dream honeymoon and the man that promised not days earlier to take care of you and protect you and keep you safe is the very reason you are not alive to witness other life milestones? This story has made me so sad...I put myself in her position and when/if she was struggling she prob expected her husband to be in fear for her life and do everything humanly possible to save her and even if he has to risk his own life, get her to the surface...but I wonder what went through her mind those last few seconds. Did she feel betrayed? Did she know what was going on?

 "Fahreinheit 451"

Wow I started reading "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury last night and finished this morning and man I LOVED IT! I highly recommend it! It is one of my favorite books now :D Oh yeah I finished "To Kill A Mockingbird" days ago and alls I can say is AWESOME! 5 stars! Right after I finished I went out and bought the movie but SOOOOOOOOOOO much was cut out that I highly recommend reading the book even if you've seen the movie"To Kill A Mockingbird" only b/c you are missing out on SOOOOOOOOOOO much! Then after I read "To Kill A Mockingbird" I read John Steinbecks short story "Of Mice and Men" and it is exactly like the movie. Then after "Of Mice and Men" I started "Fahrenheit 451" which is just such a terrific thought provoking story about censorship and got me thinking "What if we really couldn't have or read books?"

I mean I know so many "kids" now-a-days frown upon reading and look at it as a disease, but it truly is a luxury, we are very fortunate to be able to read! It's so weird how it is just 26 little letters all scrambled about and repeated to give us stories that as our eyes following along a page we are transported to a different time or place. Like mini adventure/vacations all while stationed in your living room or cozy bed! I find myself anxious to delve into the story and saddened when it comes time to put it down to face the reality of life and chores. I actually get so excited to go to "that neighborhood" or "on that boat, with the man with the straggly gray beard and crooked back that smells of goats milk" or to that "lemonade stand in Louisiana, where it's hot and sticky" or "the mountains in Colorado or Montana" of "to the center of the earth" or "in a time machine" or "to a city in Paris or old England" I could go on and on! Books in a way I feel keep the soul and mind young! Little adventures that don't cost more than a $6 Penguin Classic! or even free from your local library.

I'm often disappointed in the young adults my age b/c they despise reading and will gladly watch the film adaptation or run for the nearest Cliff or Sparks notes rather than relish in the REAL thing! I don't understand the young minds of today...no culture, no imagination, just to lazy to read a classic!

Anyway so "Fahrenheit 451" really got me thinking about books and book banning and how like in the book I would gladly die for the right to read and own books. Books are knowledge and knowledge is power!

Now I've started reading "Catcher in the Rye" and so far so good as of chapter 5. So this will be my 4th book this week and next is Jonathan Swifts "Gulliver’s Travels"

Here is a list of the books I went and bought at Borders and can't wait to read!!!
